Retail fails in ways an office never does, because customers walk every square foot of it.

Entrance glass is judged first. Handprints on doors and smears on storefront glass are the first thing a shopper sees, and they read as a store that has stopped paying attention.

Ontario winters destroy retail floors. From November to April, road salt and slush get tracked across your entrance every few minutes. Left alone it dulls finishes, stains grout and creates a slip hazard on your busiest square metre.

Washrooms are part of the shopping experience. A customer washroom that runs out at 2pm on a Saturday costs you more goodwill than most owners realise.

We work around your trading hours. Most retail clients are cleaned before opening or after close, so you never lose a minute of selling time. For centres and plazas with long hours, day porter coverage keeps entrances, washrooms and common areas presentable right through the day.

What we cover: storefront and entrance glass, hard floors and carpet, customer and staff washrooms, fitting rooms, checkout and counter areas, back-of-house and stockrooms, staff lunchrooms, and waste and recycling handling. Floor stripping, waxing and carpet extraction are scheduled periodically rather than bundled into the monthly rate.

What We Clean in a Retail Store

Entrance and storefront glass

Doors, glass, matting and the first few metres of floor take the heaviest traffic in the building and the closest inspection. We clean glass on both sides, extract entrance matting rather than just sweeping it, and pay attention to the transition from mat to floor where salt and grit collect.

Sales floor

Dust falls downward, so we work top to bottom — fixture tops and shelf edges first, displays and mid-height surfaces next, floors last. Hard floors are dust-mopped then damp-mopped; carpeted areas are vacuumed with extra attention to aisle ends and fitting room approaches, where wear shows first.

Fitting rooms

Mirrors, benches, hooks, handles and floors, plus a sweep for stray pins, tags and hangers. Fitting rooms are where a store either feels clean or does not, and they are what shoppers mention in reviews.

Customer washrooms

Fixtures sanitised, mirrors and dispensers cleaned, floors mopped including behind the door and around the base, waste emptied and consumables restocked. For stores with long hours we schedule a mid-day check rather than relying on a single clean.

Checkout and counters

Counters, PIN pads, screens and phones are the highest-touch surfaces in the store. These are disinfected, not simply wiped over.

Stockroom and staff areas

Receiving areas, lunchrooms and staff washrooms. Customers never see them, but this is where staff complaints and health and safety issues begin.

A Typical Retail Cleaning Schedule

Nightly: entrance glass and matting, all floors, washrooms sanitised and restocked, checkout surfaces disinfected, waste removed.

Weekly: fitting rooms detailed, low-level dusting, baseboards, interior glass and partitions, stockroom floors.

Monthly: high dusting of light fixtures, vents and shelf tops, edge vacuuming along walls and fixtures, spot treatment of carpet.

Seasonal: hard floor stripping and refinishing, carpet extraction, and interior and exterior window cleaning. Most Durham retailers book floor work for late spring, once the salt season is over.

What Retail Store Cleaning Costs

Four things set your number: square footage, how many nights a week you need service, your floor type, and whether customer washrooms are in scope. A 1,200 square foot boutique cleaned three nights a week is a very different job from a 6,000 square foot store open seven days.

For budgeting, a small single-unit store on a regular nightly schedule generally starts around $1,300 a month, and a larger store or small plaza around $3,000. All our hourly work is billed at $30 to $40 an hour, including day porter coverage during trading hours. Whatever the scope, you receive a fixed monthly figure in writing rather than an open-ended hourly estimate.

We are based in Courtice and work throughout Durham Region. Fully insured and WSIB covered, serving Durham Region since 2022.
